Improve an old family photo without uploading it
Local Photo Restore, listed in the App Store as Restore Old Photos: Enhance, improves clarity, resolution, yellow tint, and faded existing color on iPhone. Start with the best copy you have and keep the original. Enhancement cannot guarantee recovery of detail that was never captured.
Prepare a photograph of a printed picture
Place the print flat in even light. Keep your phone parallel to it, include the full picture, and avoid reflections before taking the photo. Choose the clearest capture from your library and run enhancement. Inspect faces and small objects before saving a new copy. Glare is best avoided during capture; the app does not repair glare.
Reduce a yellow cast in a color photograph
Enhance the photo, then adjust the yellow-tint control gradually. Compare familiar neutral areas, such as a white shirt or wall, against the original. Stop when the image looks more balanced without pushing skin or shadows into an unnatural color. The correct amount depends on the photograph.
Bring out faded color without colorizing the scene
Use the faded-color adjustment on a photo that already contains color. Make a small change and compare the whole image, then inspect faces at a larger size. Save a separate copy once the result looks useful. This is different from inventing colors for a black-and-white image.
